ARREARAGES

Arrearages occur when child support or alimony is no paid when due.  A parent or spouse who fails to pay alimony or child support.  In recent years, states have made it extremely difficult to get rid of arrearages.  Arrearages can not be discharged in bankruptcy, and courts usually will not retroactively cancel them.
