MARITAL PROPERTY

Most property accumulated by either spouse during the course of a marriage.  Marital property is also known as community property.

States may differ as to exactly what is included in marital property.  Some state include all property and earnings accumulated during the marriage, while other states exclude gifts and inheritances from consideration as marital property.
