NO FAULT DIVORCE

Basis for a divorce in which one spouse wants to split up but does not want to accuse or prove the other of any wrongdoing or misconduct.  Basis for divorce in which can be stated that simply that the couple no longer gets along.  No-fault divorces are usually granted for reasons such as, incompatibility, irreconcilable differences or irretrievable breakdown of marriage.  Some states may also allow incurable insanity as a basis for a no-fault divorce.

No-fault divorces arrived in the 1970s.  Prior to this, if an individual wanted a divorce, they would have to prove their spouse was at fault for the marriage not working.
