RESTRAINING ORDER
A court order directing one person not to do something. These orders
are typically issued in cases of alleged spousal abuse or where physical
harm is feared or has occurred. A Restraining Order is the court's
attempt to ensure the victim's safety. Other reasons that a
Restraining Order may be issued include, but are not limited to, prohibit
contact between individuals, prohibit someone from entering the family
home or removing a child from a specific county or state. These type
of orders are also commonly issued to cool down disputes between
neighbors.
