New Hampshire child support is based upon official guidelines. The amount of support arrived at under these guidelines is presumed to be correct unless it is shown that the amount is unjust or inappropriate. The Court may consider certain factors in determining the correct amount of child support.

New Hampshire child support guidelines may deviate based upon any extraordinary medical, dental or educational expenses of the child. Any state or federal tax consequences, or the significantly higher or lower income of either parent along with the economic consequences to either parent for the disposition of the marital home or any extraordinary costs associated with physical custody may also be considered by the Court. The economic consequences of the presence of any stepparents or stepchildren could cause a deviation in the calculation of child support. The Court may also consider any other significant factors in order to calculate the appropriate amount of child support.

New Hampshire child support, support enforcement and support collection are maintained within certain guidelines specified by the Federal Government.  If New Hampshire does not do so, it will lose Federal aid.  The objective of the guidelines specified by the Federal Government is to maintain a level of support for children of divorced or separated families that the children would have enjoyed if their family was intact.
